I was invited to view the Viceroy Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen, and my first impression was that this place was like a magical secret jungle hideaway resort. The Viceroy was a bit tricky to find but well worth the effort. It feels more like a retreat than a hotel and one I would highly recommend for your destination wedding.

Accommodations

The rooms are like little villas that have been placed down from the heavens. You can choose from a beachfront, ocean view or jungle setting, and the Presidential Villa is perfect for the happy wedding couple. All 41 villas feature a private patio and plunge pool, outdoor shower and high ceiling thatched palapa roof echoing the jungle environment.

I was blessed by the Viceroy Riviera Maya Shaman, who performed a smoke ritual around me and then off to the award-winning spa for some Mayan healing techniques. I then finished off my experience at their traditional Temazcal sweat lodge!

The restaurants, La Marea (refined Mexican cuisine) and Coral (Mexican-Mediterranean) are at the seaside and served up some delicious meals. The Bar and Lounge have an excellent overview of the private pier and beach and is a comfortable place to relax and lose all your worries of home with their signature drinks.
