Destination Wedding Advice From Abril ReyesWhat is your name, occupation, and resort/company that you are currently employed?

My name is Abril Reyes (although most of my couples call me “April”), I am a WPICC Certified Wedding Planner for Palace Resorts & Le Blanc Spa Resort.

What is the most exciting part of your job?

Consequently, the most interesting part of the Wedding Planning job is to see the outcome of months (or even years) of planning. When you see a picture of the wedding or get to meet the Bride and Groom and see their happy faces and excitement of that special day. Importantly, that’s what makes everything worth it.

What is your favourite location for a wedding ceremony?

Beach, hands down! If you’re coming to the Caribbean it’s because you are a beach lover! Honestly, what better way to prove it than marrying on the seaside with the sweet breeze of the ocean.

What do you love about destination weddings?

Destination Weddings is a win-win in most situations. You get to marry the person that has your heart, in a stunning place with the people you love, AND you give them a perfectly valid excuse to pack their things and feed their inner wanderlust for a few days.

What is a wedding tip you would you give future brides?

Three quick tips that I like to give to my brides are:

  • Ask questions. Never assume things, what works back at home might not function the same way in the country you’re getting married.
  • Keep a consistent title in all your e-mails with your planner or the resort. This might seem not a big deal but will help you a lot when you’re looking for specific information. Furthermore, to even to keep track of what you have already made decisions on or confirmations. Also, it is an excellent way to keep organized.
  • Always reconfirm. This way you and your planner will always be on the same channel and this will secure that your vision of the wedding will remain faithful without any misunderstanding or misinterpretation.

What do you love the most about your resort!

Honestly and proudly, what I love most about Palace Resorts is their staff. The human engine that moves the entire machinery of a huge resort such as Moon Palace or even a small one such as Isla Mujeres Palace is what makes a difference.

Our staff is so empathetic and with an enormous service attitude that most of the times they go above and beyond to make a guest happy. From a small detail such as smiling and greet you every time you pass near them to a huge day-saving such as carving four wooden pegs for a bride who had forgotten them for the cross holder, she had brought for her wedding ceremony (she had an Orthodox Catholic wedding) 2 days before the wedding. This was an incredibly stressful situation for the bride and thanks to one of our staff members that searched for some pieces of wood and carved them into the shape she had them ready for her special day.
