Melia Las Dunas
The Melia Las Dunas features a vibrant and pleasing environment for families, couples and singles, this is Cuba's most attractive all-inclusive resort. The hotel was constructed in 2006 by the Spanish hotel chain Sol Melia, the same group that manages the neighboring Sol Cayo Santa Maria and Melia Cayo Santa Maria. The island of Cayo Santa Maria is isolated from the nearest settlement, Caibarien, some 50 kilometers away. It is connected by an artificial causeway developed more than a decade ago, and it has some of Cuba's best beaches. The closest property is 6 kilometers away. Melia Las Dunas is an all-bungalow facility that includes 46 two-story bungalows that wind to the right and left of the central square with its restaurants and bars. The property features lighted pathways and beautifully manicured gardens. Water fountains, pools and small islets with lounge chairs and canopied porticos add to the charm—and make the perfect setting for weddings, of which many take place here. The hotel is the newest property managed by Sol Melia and the third property in the Cayo Santa Maria development. Melia Las Dunas has four a la carte restaurants and two buffets. Columbus is the hotel's Italian restaurant, while Isabel and Fernando serves excellent international gourmet cuisine. Los Siboneyes is the grill eatery, and Los Caribes features seafood. The lively lobby bar is open 24 hours and features a variety of cocktails and coffees. Other places to get a drink include two pool bars, three beach bars and a karaoke-disco that is open until 4 am. The beer garden, at the end of the property's main boulevard, can also be lively and is open 24 hours.
The property has four pools: two for adults and two for families and children. The three Sol Melia properties share a spa, gym and sports area. The spa, which is not included in the all-inclusive, features a hydrothermal treatment where clients are encouraged to alternately bathe in hot and cold water pools as a therapeutic treatment. Other services include massage, reflexology or exfoliation. Six lighted tennis courts, a squash court, a mountain-climbing wall, volleyball and basketball courts are also on the menu here. On the beachfront, watersports include catamarans and snorkeling. Scuba diving, motorized catamaran excursions and fishing expeditions are available along with moped rentals and bicycles are available free for guests. On-site shops sell souvenirs, cigars and other items. Importantly, since the property is on an isolated island, banking facilities are available on-site.The comfortable, elegant and tastefully designed rooms are set in a chateau-yellow color scheme with dark wood furnishings and decorative white drapes. Balconies feature furnishings, and rooms are set with two comfortable cushioned seats, 22-inch TVs, a wooden cabinet with stocked minibar, a desk, mirror, iron and ironing board, robes and key-code safe. The hotel features 24-hour room service and has 48 smoke-free and nine wheelchair-accessible rooms.
